The Twin Rivers Music Festival (TRMF), running March 16-24, will host an array of talented local musicians eager to showcase their ability.

Performance categories include Piano, Vocal, Musical Theatre and Spoken Word and is open to anyone ages four and up including adults.

Music teacher and TRMF President Amanda Roberts said the number of registered students is up by just over 100, with a significant expansion in the Junior Piano and Musical Theatre classes.

The Festival operates under the umbrella of the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association and draws from Corman Park Divisions 5, 6 and 7. These include the communities of Martensville, Warman, Langham, Dalmeny and Osler.

Numerous scholarships are up for grabs this year, with some as much as $3000.00.

Winners will be decided by event adjudicators provided by the provincial association. These individuals are professional musicians from within the province and provide entrants with valuable feedback on how to enhance their musical growth and development.

However, as Roberts pointsed out, the Festival is much more than that.

“The Festival is the perfect place to celebrate local talent as well as the hard work students have done in their lessons,” she said.

Musical studies enhance commitment, self-discipline, goal setting skills and can even amplify brain growth.

As Roberts explained, “When the brain is analyzing music it is using the same part of the brain that analyzes math, therefore increasing the strength in that part of the brain.”

The support of sponsors and donors, plus the work of many dedicated volunteers and organizers, all contribute to the success of the program.

The Festival is open to the public and brings local communities together as a whole to enjoy fine musical performances while enhancing the exposure of local artists.

Dalmeny Community Church will be the venue for Junior and Senior Piano. The Martensville Mission Church will host the Vocal, Musical Theatre and Spoken Word categories.

The Festival winds up with an Awards Concert on Sunday, March 26 at 3:00 at the Dalmeny Community Church where the audience will be treated to numerous winning performances and scholarships will be awarded.

Admission to competitions as well as the concert finale is by donation at the door.
