A man and a woman were taken to hospital with trauma-related injuries as a result of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 11 at the south entrance to Warman (Township Road 384) on Wednesday morning, November 3.
The collision occurred at about 9:45 a.m.
According to an RCMP officer at the scene, the couple, driving a black Chevrolet sedan, were eastbound on Township Road 384 crossing the highway when their vehicle collided with a northbound blue Dodge Ram half-ton pulling an empty flatbed trailer. The force of the impact sent the Chevrolet sedan into the ditch on the east side of the highway. The small car showed severe damage to its rear passenger side.
Warman RCMP, Warman Fire Rescue first responders, Medavie Ambulance and Corman Park Police responded to the collision. The two people in the sedan were both taken to hospital by Medavie Ambulance paramedics.
The driver of the half-ton truck was assessed at the scene and did not suffer any injuries.
Sarah Elking drove upon the scene of the collision shortly after it happened and immediately called 911.
“I stopped and ran over to the vehicle in the ditch,” said Elking. “The elderly couple in the vehicle were very disoriented. I did what I could, and told them to stay in the car and wait for the emergency responders to arrive.
“It was a bad crash, but it could have been worse.”
Warman Fire Chief Russ Austin said it had been a busy morning for Warman Fire Rescue personnel. There had been two emergency medical calls prior to the motor vehicle collision, and a third medical call was received while they were at the scene of the collision.
