The Legends Centre arena is slated to reopen August 4

The City of Warman is gradually reopening its indoor recreation and cultural facilities.

In a statement posted on the Warman civic website, the city said some facilities are now available for bookings, while others will remain closed until fall.

The province announced indoor recreation facilities were allowed to open July 6 as part of its Re-Open Saskatchewan plan.

The Warman Recreation and Community Services department announced that while the Legends Centre arena won’t officially open until August 4,  it is now accepting bookings for the facility.

Meanwhile, bookings for the multi-purpose rooms began July 6 and will operate within the provincial limited capacity guidelines and with physical distancing in effect. The board rooms will remain closed for the present time to ensure physical distancing is achieved in the administration area of the facility (reviewed on a regular basis).

The Brian King Centre opened for rentals July 6.

The Diamond Rodeo Arena will remain closed until September 18.

“We know how important these facilities are to our residents,” said Mayor Sheryl Spence in the notice posted on the city’s website. “We have been planning for the opening for some time now, and have had the facilities cleaned and ready to open once the provincial government provided a date. We now have that date and can start scheduling the utilization of the Legends Centre as quickly as possible.”

With the opening of the indoor sporting facilities, there are several guidelines that must be adhered to, including physical distancing of two-metres and no groups larger than 30 people. There are also guidelines established for league play and regulations around different sports where distancing may not be able to be achieved.

“Lots has changed and lots will change as we open up the indoor facilities,” said Program Manager Coralie Bueckert in the online notice. “However, we look forward to opening our recreational facilities to the public in a phased approach, making sure we protect the safety of our users, spectators, and staff.”
