Martensville residents will have to endure some short-term pain for long-term gain this summer.

Paving projects and street repairs are in full swing across the city, which translates into detours, detours and more detours.

A list of projects currently underway was posted on the City of Martensville website in late May, with work commencing shortly afterward.

The roadway rehabilitation projects include:

*  Centennial Drive South from 1st Street South to 6th Street South;

* A section of road between Friesen Cove and MacCormack Road;

* the MacCormack Ranch entry road up to Hamm Terrace;

* 8th Avenue North in the Sandy Rise and Tudor Heights section;

* 3rd Street North from 1st Avenue North to 5th Avenue North.

The projects involve milling the existing asphalt, levelling and paving.

Some projects will also include replacing the subgrade structure of the roadway and repairing concrete curbings and improving storm water drainage.

In its notices posted online, the city acknowledges the work will be an inconvenience for residents and businesses. However, the city is working closely with contractors to mitigate the negative impact as much as possible.

“We ask all residents to please be mindful and follow all barricades, road closures, and detours that are in place,” stated the city’s notice. “Due to the nature of this type of work, the work area will change throughout the project. Above all we want to ensure the safety of all residents and workers.”

Completion of the projects is dependent on weather conditions.
