The following is the occurrence summary for May 18-25.

On May 20 at 3:30 p.m., the Corman Park Police received two 9-1-1 “Report an Impaired Driver” calls about a southbound 2004 Chev Colorado pick-up truck, north of Saskatoon, on Highway 11.

Police located the vehicle just north of the city limits and stopped a 39-year-old Duck Lake man who was operating the vehicle.

The man could not produce a license but advised police he was just on his way home from work. The man could not remember where he lived when questioned by police and the odour of an alcoholic beverage was observed coming from his breath.

Open alcohol containers were also observed inside the vehicle. Police arrested the man for impaired driving and transported him to the Saskatoon Police Service Headquarters for the purpose of obtaining breath samples.

The accused provided two samples of breath at 110 mgs% each. The accused was held for a short while and later turned over to a sober friend. He was released on charges of impaired driving, driving while suspended and operating a motor vehicle with open alcohol. The man has not held a valid license for eight years and had seven previous impaired driving convictions. He is scheduled to make an appearance in Provincial Court in July.

On May 21, at 12:42 p.m., the Corman Park Police received a call that a child had been accidentally locked in a vehicle and was in the sunshine and that the mother was fearful for the child’s well-being.

The child was locked in a vehicle in direct sunlight in 22 degree heat.

Police attended and learned that a family had left the City of Saskatoon to take kids on a walk in the country on Township Road 364, east of Saskatoon.

One child, a toddler, was left in a car seat and the car doors were closed when the mother realized she had locked herself out of the car. Police attended and observed that the child was sweating and its breathing appeared shallow and laboured.

The mother advised that they had been waiting outside for twenty minutes. When it was apparent that a tow truck would still be a while, the officer made the decision to break the car window. The child was still conscious and did manage to drink some water. EMS attended and evaluated the toddler, who did not require transport to hospital. No charges were laid as the matter was considered accidental.

On May 21 at 9:55 p.m., Corman Park Police observed a fast moving vehicle eastbound on Highway 5, east of Saskatoon.

The vehicle was clocked at 129 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone. The Hyundai Tucson was pulled over and it was revealed that there were three male occupants in the vehicle.

The men produced Quebec identity documents which were suspicious in nature. Police observed one of the men in possession of a large amount of cash and a search of the vehicle was conducted revealing more cash, a total in excess of $10,000. It was revealed that the identities were not those of the men in the car. The three men were arrested on charges of uttering forged documents, possession of identity documents relating to another person and obstructing a police investigation.

The men were held in custody and later released for a court date in July. The matter has been turned over to the RCMP for further investigation.

On May 24, at 1:15 a.m., Corman Park Police observed a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu being operated southbound on Highway 11 near Osler with a burned out headlight. The vehicle was stopped near the ramp to Highway 305 and a man was observed getting out of the driver’s seat and moving to the passenger seat. There were three other people in the vehicle. Police questioned the man about his identity and requested his driver’s licence, which he advised he could not produce. The man attempted to falsely identify himself, but investigation revealed his real identity.

It turned out the man had been prohibited from driving in Criminal Court just four days earlier on May 20. The man also had conditions placed upon him by a judge not to consume alcohol and to abide by an 11:00 p.m. curfew.

The man was read a breath demand and provided a sample of breath into a roadside screening device, which revealed the man had consumed a small amount of alcohol.

The driver, a 29-year-old resident of Melfort, was arrested for driving while prohibited and two counts of breaching a release order. He was released a few hours later on an appearance notice with a court date in Saskatoon Provincial Court.
