February 29, 1960 – August 9, 2025
Byron Holmes died having had 16 birthdays (born on Feb 29th, 1960 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan), and passed peacefully on August 9th, 2025 shortly after his devo’s, first coffee and cigarette.
He lived a life that reflected both the struggles and triumphs of the troubled human spirit. His journey was not without its valleys—he faced the grip of addiction – but through courage, determination, and the grace of God, he overcame. His story became one of redemption, not defeat, and his testimony served as a bold and loud encouragement to those walking their own hard roads.
He proudly owned Clean-Way Furnace Cleaners for over 40 years, in various cities, and many of us can boast of having his signature on our furnace and ductwork, with a full record of his accomplishments in our homes. He was a talented guitarist, and songwriter, with continuous ambitions to record an album, but he performed in various places throughout the prairies. He poured his heart into every note he played. Whether performing for an audience or playing alone, his guitar sang with honesty, joy, and sometimes a touch of the “funny chords” blues, and his special arrangements of classic hymns.
As a testimony he would silently give widowed discounts, or help someone in need without ever expecting repayment. At times he would help others, even to his own detriment. Not one for complaining, he could sit with you when you did, and rejoice when it got better. When asked for it, he could give experienced, tactful, and humorous advice.
If you’re reading this, he is survived by you, along with his wife Linda, and children; daughter Sheila (Allan) and their children Tina, Tori and Isaac Abramoff, son Clark and children Bryn, Amelia, Elise Holmes, and daughter Kaitlin Kretsch and children Terrel, Marshall and Maddi Lonsdale. His siblings Cheryl (Derald) Busse, Doyle (Carolyn) Holmes, Rhonda (Bruce) McKenzie, and his many nieces and nephews and their children, and his ex-in-laws Bruce Cameron and Geri Holmes, and step-siblings Kelly Jones and spouse, and Kari (Josiah) Bloomfield.
He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Shirley Holmes, and his sister Sheila in infancy, and his in-laws Jack and Justina Zacharias, and his father’s second wife Caroline Holmes.
A Celebration of his Life was held on Saturday, August 16th, 2025 2:00 p.m. at the Dalmeny Bible Church. To leave condolences and to watch the live stream, please visit Byron’s obituary at www.dalmenyfuneralhome.ca.
Byron’s life was a song—sometimes raw, sometimes sweet, but always real. And though his earthly melody has ended, the echo of his spirit will linger in the hearts of all who knew him.
