Warman High School (WHS) student Aira Miguel is the latest recipient of the Warman Future Leader Award.
Miguel, who plans to enroll in the Biomedical Sciences program at the University of Saskatchewan after graduation, was nominated for the award because of her leadership role and volunteer activities at the high school and in the community.
The award was presented to Miguel by Warman Mayor Gary Philipchuk at the June 10 meeting of Warman City Council.
Miguel is a member of the WHS Student Representative Council. Over the past year, she’s helped organize numerous WHS student activities, including bake sales, student ‘winter olympics’, pep rallies and fundraisers for various charitable causes.

She was part of the backstage crew for the WHS musical, ‘Mary Poppins’ as well as the WHS drama club’s production of ‘Shuddersome’, which placed first in the regional competition and third in the provincial competition. She organized a bottle drive that raised $1,000 toward offsetting the WHS drama competition expenses.
Miguel said she is grateful and humbled by the award, saying it is nice to have her efforts recognized by her peers and the community.
“I enjoy what I’ve done to make school more enjoyable,” she said. “As well as being able to help others.”
The Warman Future Leader Award is given to a resident 18 years of age or under who is actively involved in the community and who has demosntrated outstanding achievements in his or her area of interest.
