Martensville Fire Department, Martensville RCMP and Medavie Health Services West paramedics were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 12 and Lutheran Road shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Monday, May 6.
One of the vehicles involved in the collision was a white SUV, which ended up in the median between the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 12. The other vehicle was a grey SUV.
Martensville Deputy Fire Chief Dean Brooman said each vehicle contained a single occupant. Both drivers were assessed on scene by emergency medical personnel; neither driver required transport to hospital.
“They were lucky,” said Brooman. “That is a bad intersection, particularly during peak traffic times.”
Traffic in the northbound lanes of Highway 12 was reduced to a single lane, as. emergency personnel attended to the scene.
The northbound lane was backed up for about 45 minutes as commuters heading home from work experienced slow going due to the collision scene.
Brooman said it’s important for drivers to use caution and have patience when passing emergency vehicles.
“The red and blue flashing lights are there for a reason,” he said. “Please, always slow down when there’s emergency vehicles and personnel doing their job. We all want to get home safely.”
Martensville Fire Department personnel cleared the scene by 4:45 p.m.
There are no details available at this time on the number of patients or the extent of the injuries, if any.
The cause of the collision is currently under investigation.
