Local volleyball player, Trinity Walton, of Warman will be taking her skills to the Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s volleyball team this fall.
The Kodiaks women’s volleyball team recently wrapped up the 2022-2023 season with the highest finish in program history at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference championships in March where they finished fourth in the league. With program building for the 2023 season well underway, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks team is looking to continue the 2022-2023 season’s momentum by further developing talented athletes, such as Walton.
The highly-recruited Warman High School student’s road to volleyball success began in gymnastics.
Although starting in gymnastics later than most, her natural ability and determination meant Trinity was fast-tracked into competition, where she achieved great success.
She won gold in mini-trampoline in her first competition. The following year she medaled with her team in the Saskatchewan Winter Games. This was followed by back to back gold medals in tumbling at the Western Canada Cup.
After five years of competitive gymnastics she began to pursue volleyball, which was a passion of hers. Although in the beginning Trinity could barely hit the ball over the net, her desire to learn quickly changed that. Attending camps and playing beach volleyball improved her ability. Skills such as getting vertical height and handling pressure situations transferred over nicely from gymnastics.
Opportunities to compete in club volleyball in provincial, national and international competitions, along with good coaching, honed those skills.
The honours with distinction student, who serves on the school SRC, also helped coach gymnastics during this past year.
She plans to study Criminal Justice at Lethbridge College.
