Warman Wildcats Trey Markus fires a shot on net. Markus was one of five affiliated players to suit up for the AAA team over the weekend.

The Warman Wildcats came away with a pair of important wins as they hosted the Estevan Bears last weekend at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex.

Warman won 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday and 7-2 on Sunday.

Despite being down four starters, the team never missed a beat, thanks to five affiliated players from the U18AA Wildcats. Mason Obrigewitch, Jake Kessler, Trey Markus, Markus Thompson, and Raiden Clayton stepped in nicely over the weekend.

The Saturday game was a close one. Estevan took an early lead on a Jase Konecsni goal. But, Zane Normand’s powerplay marker for the Wildcats tied the game in the second period.

Normand’s second goal of the game midway through the third period put Warman ahead for the first time. This lead was short-lived, though, as Cade Cole would tie it up less than a minute later.

Tyler Henrikson restored the Warman lead with less than five minutes to play.

Cole was able to tie the game with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker, forcing the game into overtime.

The extra time with three on three skaters solved nothing, resulting in a shootout.

Deegan Wapass and Kazden Mathies scored for the Wildcats while Warman goalie Luke Brunen shut down the last two Estevan shooters, giving the Wildcats the victory.

The Sunday game started out as another close one. Deegan Wapass got Warman on the board in the first period.

Estevan took an early second period lead on goals by Kole Keen and Martensville Marauders alumni Teigan Semchyshen.

Kazden Mathies tucks the puck around Estevan goalie Kaden Perron. His shootout goal proved to be the game winner as the Warman U18AAA Wildcats defeated the Estevan Bears 4-3 on February 4.

Warman took over the second half of the game. Goals by Liam Bursaw and Kazden Mathies gave Warman the lead before the end of the second frame.

Warman added four more goals in the third period.

Tylan Hendrikson scored a pair and Deegan Wapass netted his second of the game. Raiden Clayton rounded out the scoring with his first AAA goal. The affiliated player earned Home Player of the Game as he also added two assists to that goal. Warman goalie Corben Schnurr made 24 saves to get the win.

Teigan Semchyshen, who had been Schnurr’s teammate on the U15AA Martensville Marauders, earned Away Player of the Game. The Warman native is having a great rookie season and is the top scoring defenceman for the Bears.

Warman’s next home game is Saturday, February 11 at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex (7:30 p.m. start) against Yorkton where they will square off against Kaden Shumay, another Martensville Marauders alumni.
