The Martensville Maven Marlies U11 ‘B’ team are the 2022 March Ice Female Tournament Champions!
The March Ice Female Tournament is one that draws some of the top teams from across the province and also included a team from from Alberta.
The Mavens were one of 16 teams in U11 competing for the championship banner. The Mavens finished their Round Robin play in 1st place, defeated the Western Prairie Wildcats in the ‘A’ Semi-Final and met the Saskatoon Comet Force in an exciting ‘A’ Final matchup which was labeled by the tournament host as the “Game of the Tournament”.
The Mavens were down 2-1 late in the third when they pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and scored the tying goal with 2.4 seconds remaining in the 3rd Period.
The Mavens carried that momentum into OT and quickly scored the tournament clinching goal for the 3-2 victory.
The Martensville Maven Marlies made history for female hockey in Martensville and are bringing home the first ever female championship banner for the MMHA.
