A 31-year-old woman was killed in a tragic two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 12 and Highway 305 on Wednesday, March 16.
The collision, involving a northbound car with a single female driver and a southbound pickup truck with a male driver and a male passenger, occurred at 4:46 p.m.
Martensville First Responders, Corman Park Police, Medavie paramedics and Warman RCMP responded to the scene in a matter of minutes. Martensville Fire Department personnel used extrication equipment to free the injured woman from her car.
The two males in the pickup truck were not injured.
The highway was closed to northbound and southbound traffic and STARS air ambulance arrived shortly after 5:00 p.m. The helicopter landed on the highway and the injured woman was transferred to the care of STARS paramedics. The woman later succumbed to her injuries at Royal University Hospital.
The woman’s identity has not been released by police at this time.
Northbound and southbound traffic on Highway 12 was rerouted onto Highway 305 at the collision scene for about five hours while forensic collision analysts conducted an investigation into the cause of the crash. The highway was reopened at 10:45 p.m. March 16.
Warman RCMP Staff Sergeant Barry Thomas said the initial investigation indicates the southbound pickup truck was turning left to go eastbound onto Highway 305 when it collided with the northbound car. The collision is still under investigation by police.
