Kenneth Peter Neufeld

Former Warman town councillor Kenneth Peter Neufeld passed away February 5 at the age of 69.

Neufeld was born and raised in Warman, lived most of his life in his hometown, and went on to serve as a town councillor for 12 years.

He was first elected in 1985, and served until 1991. He ran successfully for town council again in 1996 and served until 2000.

During his terms on council, the town implemented a storm sewer system and paving program for streets throughout the community. Both initiatives proved invaluable as the town’s population expanded rapidly and its infrastructure was able to pace. Warman became a city in 2012.

Warman Mayor Gary Philipchuk expressed condolences to Neufeld’s family, and said the community owes much to people who guided the town’s development.

“It’s always hard to lose a community-builder,” said Philipchuk. “Ken served on council for 12 years, and in those days, council had to make some tough decisions; but that set the foundation for growth in Warman.

“His contribution is greatly appreciated.”

Neufeld was born February 2, 1953. After working briefly in Thompson, Manitoba, he returned to Saskatchewan and in 1972, began his 47-year career at ASL Paving Ltd. He started out on the road, on the back end of a paving machine in the summer and in the parts department in the winter. He eventually became parts manager for the company before retiring due to health issues.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shelley, his sons Jason (Heather) and Scott (Rachel), daughter Jenn (Blake) and several grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother Nettie and siblings Ev (Ron), Don (Shelly), Cathy, and sister-in-law Elsi.
