Warman came close to scoring on this play as the puck just skirted the goal line but didn’t go in

The Warman Wildcats hosted the Moose Jaw Warriors at the Legends Centre in back to back games last weekend.

On Friday, December 17 the home squad won 6-3. On Saturday the visitors prevailed in a close 6-5 game.

In the Friday victory the line of Jordan Normand, Jaydon Jessiman and Rhett Deknowy was on fire. Jessiman was named home star for his three-goal, three-assist performance. Deknowy also scored three goals. His hat trick goal was an empty netter to seal the deal in the Wildcats’ 6-3 win.

Saturday’s game was  a back and forth affair..

Warman led 2-1 at the end of the first period on goals by Rhett Deknowy and Jeter Korte. Jackson Allan scored the Warriors’ lone goal.

In the second period Moose Jaw took the lead on goals by Liam Fitzpatrick  and Rowan Calvert. Before the end of the frame Rhett Deknowy’s second goal of the game tied things up at 3-3.

The first half of the third period belonged to Moose Jaw as  Orin Olsen and Kayden Ostrom scored power play markers, while Liam Fitzpatrick netted his second of the game on an unassisted effort.

Warman battled back with Jayden Jessiman scoring a power play goal with six minutes to go. Carsyn Dyck’s goal at the three minute mark pulled the home squad to within one.

Moose Jaw held off Warman’s attempt to tie the game in the final minutes ,giving them a hard-fought 6-5 win.

Warman ends the first part of the season in first place in the highly competive Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League.

Their play earned them an invitation to the prestigious Mac’s U18 AAA Tournament.in Calgary set to begin on December 27.

They will be competing in Pool 6 against the Calgary Flames, Chicago Mission, OHA Edmonton, and RINK Kelowna.

Other SMAAAL teams in the tournament are Prince Albert Mintos, Saskatoon Blazers and Regina Pat Canadians.

The last time a Saskatchewan team won the tournament was the Regina Pat Canadians in 2017.
