A lockdown at Warman High School (WHS) on Tuesday afternoon, December 7, was lifted after police determined there was no threat to the safety of students and staff at the school.
A letter sent to parents of students at WHS by Prairie Spirit School Division (PSSD) Education Director Darryl Bazylak shortly after the lockdown was lifted said the measure was implemented as a safety precaution.
“Earlier today, we received information of a possible threat to the safety of students and staff at Warman High School,” said Bazylak in the letter to parents.
“At this time, our understanding is that some students reported receiving a threatening message targeting the school.”
Bazylak said the school moved to a lockdown at 2:25 p.m. as part of the Prairie Spirit Emergency Response protocol.
RCMP officers arrived on scene shortly after the lockdown was implemented.
A thorough search of the school and surrounding area determined there was no safety concern, according to Bazylak.

In a news release, Warman RCMP said officers attended the school immediately after being notified of the lockdown.
The lockdown was lifted at approximately 3:00 p.m. All staff and students are safe.
Bazylak said the school division appreciates the RCMP response to the situation.
“A lockdown is initiated when a threat is inside or in the direct vicinity of the school building,” said Bazylak. “The risk is considered to be significant and immediate.
“We commend our staff for their exemplary response to this situation.
“Appropriate follow-up and supports will be in place as needed. We appreciate the work of our police partners in ensuring student and staff safety.”
Police continue to investigate the incident.
