Upgrading the LED lights at the Legends Centre will save Warman taxpayers over $34,000 a year in electricity costs.

In a report to the Warman City Council meeting on Monday, November 15, Warman Recreation and Community Services Manager Paul McGonigal said the savings are due to the installation of an LED lighting retrofit in August, 2021 by Greenwave Innovations.

The company that did the installation monitored the usage of electricity on a daily basis during the last week of October, 2021, to calculate the actual reduction in greenhouse gas  (GHG) emissions and the dollar amount of savings to the city.

The data indicates that prior to the retrofit, the average annual consumption of electricity for the Legends Centre was 433,632 kilowatt hours. After the retrofit, annual consumption drops to 197,450 kilowatt hours, for an annual reduction of 236,181 kilowatt hours.

In dollar terms, that translates into annual savings of $34,217; from a price tag of $60,992 per year down to $26,775. The dollar estimate is based on SaskPower’s current utility pricing.

It also reduces the GHG emissions from 308 tonnes of CO2e per year prior to the retrofit to 140 tonnes after; a reduction of 168 tonnes.
