The Moose Jaw Vanier Spirits won the gold medal at the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) 4A Girls Soccer Provincial championship tournament hosted by Martensville High School last weekend.

The Spirits defeated their cross-town rivals, the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones, by a score of 3-0 in the championship final game on Saturday, October 30. The Cyclones took the silver medal.

The Spirits goal scorers in the gold medal game included Ratchel Chakanza, Michaela DeCorby and Danamay Maneso.

The Regina Luther Lions claimed the provincial bronze medal, beating the Se-Se-Wa-Hum Spirits by a score of 3-1 in the final. Luther’s goal scorers in that game were Prehdom Best, Elizah Orell and Esme Babald, while Lavryn Joseph replied for Se-Se-Wa-Hum.

In round-robin play on Friday, October 29, the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones beat Se-Se-Wa-Hum 2-0. Goal scorers for the Cyclones were Leota Gray and Asia McCulloch. In the other round-robin match-up, Moose Jaw Vanier Spirits downed the Regina Luther Lions 1-0. Moose Jaw’s goal-scorer was Michaela DeCorby.
