It was an action packed night at the Wyant Group Raceway on September 11 as the Martensville A&W Valley Street Stock 100 provided entertainment for the large crowd in attendance.
Before the night got started, the track paid respect to first responders in honour of 9/11 as it was the 20th anniversary. On hand was members of the Martensville Fire Department.
The night didn’t disappoint. Along with the 100 hundred lap Street Stock feature, it was the season final points night for the raceway’s regular programming in the Mini-Stock, Sask. Legends, and Pro Truck divisions. Also the Hobby Stocks and the Hobby Trucks from the King’s Park Speedway in Regina were in attendance, putting a show on for the fans.
There were a total of 26 Street Stocks, as the event drew riders from both Saskatchewan and Alberta.
The night began with the Cruisn’ the Dub Trophy Dash, where the top six Street Stocks from the time trials competed. It was a photo finish as Shawn Lowe of Airdrie Alberta just beat Saskatoon’s Kurtis Houben for the win.
All six cars automatically qualified for the main event and didn’t have to participate in the heat races.
There were three heat races for the Street Stocks which help determine the respective driver’s position for the main event.
The main event was exciting as always, as 26 cars gave it their all in the 100 lap feature.
Saskatoon driver Scott Barrand, actually qualified for a top position in the feature but he chose to start at the back of the pack because if he would have won, he would have earned an extra cash prize. However, he just fell short of that top spot and ended up finishing in second place.
Ricky Sommers of Grand Prairie, Alberta ended up taking the top spot has he was in front of the pack for the majority of the race after starting in the fifth position.
Overall it was a fun and exciting night of racing. Other results from the night include Luc Haukaas finishing in first of the Pro Trucks feature, while Brennan Kirton was runner-up and Warman’s Cole Nixey placed third.
Vonda’s Dorian André won the Mini-Stock feature race, while Martensville’s Lachlyn Anderson finished second and of Braxton Clewes of Hepburn rounded out the top three.
In the Sask. Legends class, Darrell Buckingham of Calgary earned the top spot in the feature race, Biggar’s Hayden Hoogeveen finished in second and Steve Lebedoff of Meadow Lake place third.
Regina’s Todd Martens won the Hobby Stock feature, while fellow Regina racer Dave Kindred was the winner of the Hobby Trucks feature.
