Martensville‘s comprehensive new Official Community Plan (OCP) is one step closer to being adopted.

Martensville City Council passed first reading of the OCP at its meeting on Tuesday, April 6.

The new OCP outlines policies “for future land use and development, community well-being, and stewardship of the natural environment.” It marks the culmination of a comprehensive review begun in 2019 to update the city’s current policies and map out a future vision for the community’s growth over the next three decades.

Following public consultation earlier this spring, a number of changes to the OCP bylaw were recommended by city administration.

The city’s OCP must be in alignment with the Partnership for Growth (P4G) Planning District OCP and zoning bylaw. The P4G zoning bylaw is currently in the process of undergoing public consultation.

The Martensville OCP is slated to return to the city council table for a public hearing on May 18, followed by second and third reading. Once third reading has been received, the OCP will then be sent to the province for ministerial approval.

Also at its April 6 meeting, Martensville City Council approved a new Harassment Prevention Policy that will apply to all city staff and officials.

Proposed amendments to the city’s current policy were first brought to the council table in February, 2021. After consultation with worker representatives on the city’s Occupational Health Committee, a revised policy was finalized. That revised policy, which aims to “create and grow a positive workplace culture,” was formally adopted by council. It is written in easy-to-understand language.
