Warman-Martensville RCMP officers were busy last weekend, responding to a serious head-on collision, a home invasion, and a suspect attempting to flee police.
RCMP Sergeant Curtis Little said the first incident involving a person attempting to evade police occurred just after midnight on Saturday, February 27,
“Warman RCMP officers attempted to stop a vehicle in Warman,” said Little. “The driver failed to stop and drove off at high speed. Police discontinued the pursuit for public safety.”
The vehicle travelled into the rural area in an attempt to evade police. RCMP Warman members obtained the assistance of the Saskatoon Police Air One airplane.
“The suspects were observed going into a residence in the RM of Corman Park,” said Little. “The driver and two passengers were located. The driver was arrested and charged with flight from a police officer, impaired operation of a conveyance and impaired operation of a conveyance over 80 mg/%. One passenger was also issued a ticket for open liquor in a vehicle. Corman Park police service also assisted.”
The second incident occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, February 28, Warman RCMP were called to a home in the 100 block of Meadowlark park in Warman for a complaint of three men breaking into a residence.
Little said the suspects brandished a firearm and a number of items were taken from the residence. The occupants inside were not injured. He added that the investigation is ongoing.
“This is an isolated incident, as far as we can determine,” said Little.
The third serious incident occurred on Sunday evening, February 28, when RCMP Warman members responded to a a head-on collision on Highway 14 approximately 16 kilometers east of Asquith.
Little said two persons were seriously injured in the collision. One was taken by STARS helicopter to the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. The highway was closed for approximately two hours. Road conditions were not believed to be a contributing factor.
