New Democratic Party (NDP) Leader Ryan Meili launched the provincial election campaign with a promise to invest in people and stand against Sask. Party cuts to health care and education.

“In the last six months, Saskatchewan families have been through a lot, fighting the COVID crisis together,” said Meili. “But even before the pandemic hit, life here was getting harder. People are stretched and stressed and finding it more difficult to make ends meet. Scott Moe and the Sask. Party are satisfied with the way things are – and willing to make things worse with deep cuts and austerity. That’s just wrong. It’s time to put people first.”

Meili pledged that as government, the New Democrats would act immediately to stop the Sask Party’s cuts and invest in the things that matter to families:

Meil pledged a system of health care that’s “there when you need it” without American-style user fees.

He also promised safer schools and smaller class sizes to ensure the best chance in life for Saskatchewan kids;

Meili said he will implement a “Sask-First plan” to use Saskatchewan companies and workers to build infrastructure projects within the province and a raise to $15/hour for minimum-wage workers;

He said his party would ‘“ixing long-term care and expand home care to help seniors stay at home,”

He also pledged to end the Sask. Party’s “broken politics” by “taking big money out of politics.”

“The Saskatchewan Party under Scott Moe has promised, if re-elected, to run austerity budgets for the next four years, which we all know means deep cuts to health care and education,” said Meili.

“The choice facing Saskatchewan voters couldn’t be more clear. A commitment to invest now in health care and education – or the Sask. Party’s plan for dangerous cuts during a pandemic,” he added. “We will take this choice to every voter in Saskatchewan.”
