The Saskatoon North Partnership for Growth (P4G) Planning District and its Official Community Plan (OCP) are both one step closer to reality.

Martensville City Council gave first reading to a bylaw establishing the P4G Planning District at its meeting on Tuesday, September 1.

Council also gave first reading to a bylaw endorsing the new planning district’s OCP.

Martensville is one of five municipalities that are part of the P4G. The others are Saskatoon, Warman, Osler and Corman Park.

Each municipality is introducing first reading of the P4G bylaws in preparation for a joint meeting of all five councils on September 24, at which time a public hearing on the bylaws will be held followed by second and third readings by the joint councils.

The P4G Planning District will replace the Corman Park-Saskatoon Planning District.

The P4G regional plan was approved in principle by all five member councils in 2017.

The regional plan includes land use policies and a regional land use map, a regional servicing strategy and a regional governance and implementation strategy.

The regional plan aims to facilitate cost-effective and efficient development of the area in future decades by coordinating growth to benefit all partner municipalities in the region.

The public hearing on September 24 will be held during an online video-conference joint meeting of all five municipal councils. As many as 41 elected representatives of the municipalities could be participating in the meeting.

Extensive public consultations were held over the past three years on the regional plan.
