The City of Martensville and Town of Dalmeny will see several infrastructure projects constructed, thanks to a cash injection from the provincial government.
On Wednesday, July 8, Government Relations Minister Lori Carr announced the approval of an additional 139 projects totalling $14 million of provincial investment under the Municipal Economic Enhancement Program (MEEP).
Included in the announcement were five infrastructure projects for Dalmeny, including:
* First Street watermain replacement ($35,816);
* Upgrade Railway Avenue ($80,000);
* Replacement of a culvert ($11,978);
* Water main looping ($119,654);
* Install fence at off-leash dog park ($15,000).
The City of Martensville is receiving funding for six recreation-related infrastructure projects and one municipal public works equipment purchase, including:
* BMX Pump Track ($150,000);
* Kinsmen Park pathway paving ($140,000);
* Lights at senior ball diamond ($200,000);
* Outdoor rink paving ($80,000);
* Construction of RV park and campground ($750,000);
* Paving parking lot at the south end of the Martensville Sports Centre ($50,000);
* Purchase of two Gator all-purpose maintenance vehicles ($16,261).
Carr said so far in June and July, a total of 194 municipal projects and initiatives have been approved for 109 communities across Saskatchewan, including RMs, resort villages, villages, towns and cities.
“The total investment so far of $21.37 million under the Municipal Economic Enhancement Program 2020 strengthens communities in two ways,” said Carr. “Municipalities improve their local infrastructure and capital assets needed to provide services to residents as well as provide projects that can help get residents back to work.”
The $150 million MEEP 2020 is a key component of the Government of Saskatchewan’s $7.5 billion, two-year capital plan to build a strong province and stimulate its economic recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Each project and its schedule is managed by the municipality receiving funding. All MEEP 2020 funding must be used by March 31, 2022.
