Warman High School (WHS) Grade 12 graduates will have a memorable graduation day after all.
Warman City Council voted during a video-conference meeting on Monday, June 8 to approve a Grade 12 graduation procession later this month.
The procession is slated to begin at approximately 6:45 pm on Thursday, June 25 at the WHS football field and follow a predetermined route.
Physical distancing and other hygiene guidelines mandated by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) will be followed.
City Council adopted the resolution to allow the graduation procession in response to a request from the WHS Graduating Class parent committee. The parent committee had previously received approval from the SHA.
In a letter to Warman City Council, the parent committee said the 2020 graduating class of WHS “has lost a great deal, most notably their graduation ceremonies.
“As parents, we are striving to give them an opportunity to be celebrated by and with their community. We are proposing a cruise-style procession in Warman on Friday, June 26.”
The parent committee estimates there will be between 60 to 80 vehicles included in the procession. Each grad will arrive in their chosen vehicle and proceed in the vehicle they arrive in.
Parent volunteers will be there to supervise and coordinate.
Graduatess will not exit their vehicles, no objects will be passed between vehicles, and there will be no socializing between participants.
