The Warman Wolverines of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) were presented with the 2025 Warman Group of the Year award at the Warman City Council meeting on Monday, June 8.

Wolverines Head Coach and General Manager Brett Pilkington, along with veteran local players Trey Markus and Carter Bergen, accepted the award on behalf of the team from Warman Mayor Gary Philipchuk.

The award is given annually to a club with three or more members, whose  efforts have significantly contributed to Warman’s quality of life through recreational sports, arts and culture, environmental leadership or community and social services. The major focus of this award involved volunteer efforts made during the 2025 calendar year.

“To the community of Warman, the Wolverines quickly became more than just a new SJHL hockey team playing in our city,” said Philipchuk in presenting the award. “The organization made a real effort to connect with the community and give back through hands-on volunteer work and community involvement.”

Players and team members volunteered at several City of Warman and community events, including helping out at the KidSport Drive-Thru Breakfast and supporting the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign.

They’ve also been very visible in the community, doing school visits, meeting students, and encouraging young people to get involved in sports.

The Wolverines have also done a great job of connecting with the local minor hockey association by inviting teams to attend games, creating memorable experiences for young players and generally helping to build excitement around the game of hockey.

“In their very first year in Warman, the Warman Wolverines have shown strong community spirit, a willingness to volunteer, and a genuine desire to be part of the community,” said Philipchuk.  “Their efforts have made a meaningful contribution to Warman’s quality of life.”
