Twenty-seven teams from across the Prairie provinces, including the Twin City Angels U13A and U15A squads, converged on Warman from Friday to Sunday, May 22-24, for the third annual Prairie Oasis Classic.

U13A coach Shaun Longworth said it was “an amazing weekend for softball” as nearly 70 games were played over the course of three days at Prairie Oasis Park.

“It was a huge undertaking and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our amazing tournament co-ordinators and our parent volunteers,” he noted.

On the U13A side, the Twin City Angels had a strong showing in the round robin, winning three of their four games.

On Friday, they downed the Winnipeg Lightning 10-0 and Regina Fighting Saints 10-9 before suffering their only loss on Saturday to the Calgary Adrenaline 18-7. They then finished out the round robin with a 17-6 win over the Battleford Bandits.

That result put them second in their pool and fourth in the ‘A’ Division, pitting them against the Eastman Wildcats on Sunday morning.

Unfortunately, the Angels were shut out against the Wildcats, who would go on to win the tournament.

Meanwhile, the U15A Angels went 2-1 in their round robin, losing 11-0 versus the Calgary Kaizen on Friday night but winning 8-2 against the Southeast Sun Devils and 19-4 versus the Melfort Spirit on Saturday. That put them into the playoffs against the Humboldt East Central Wolverines where they lost out, ending their run at the Classic.

One of their opponents in the round robin, the Calgary Kaizen, went undefeated throughout the weekend and ultimately won the tournament.
