By CHIEF ROB DUTTCHEN, Corman Park Police Service
At approximately 9:00 p.m. on February 18, Corman Park Police Service (CPPS) received multiple calls reporting a vehicle fire near Highway 16 and the Langham scales. Officers attended and located a vehicle fully engulfed in flames at the roadside. CPPS members assisted by initiating traffic control measures in support of fire suppression efforts led by the Dalmeny Fire Department.
On the evening of February 19, officers on patrol near Highway 219 and Grasswood Road observed a vehicle departing a known problem property.
A traffic stop was conducted to assess the driver’s sobriety. At the roadside, the driver displayed signs of drug impairment, and an oral fluid demand was made. Officers also observed an open liquor bottle in plain view.
Both occupants were identified, and the passenger was determined to be wanted on outstanding warrants. The passenger was taken into custody, and the driver’s oral fluid test returned a positive result for cocaine.
The driver and passenger were processed at the scene. The driver received a 21‑day licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The passenger was released on an Undertaking to appear in Saskatoon court. Both individuals were provided a courtesy transport to an address in Saskatoon.
On February 21 at approximately 10:30 p.m., CPPS and RCMP members responded to multiple reports of a vehicle that had struck a utility pole at Range Road 3062 and Township Road 373. Callers indicated that the occupants had fled on foot. Officers arrived and located a lone male walking on Range Road 3061 with facial injuries and showing signs of intoxication. The subject was turned over to RCMP custody and declined medical assistance from EMS.
To assist in locating additional suspects, CPPS deployed their Remotely Piloted Aerial System (RPAS), commonly known as a drone. The search located two sets of footprints leading from the crash scene across a nearby field. Officers followed the tracks to a property where a shop door was found forced open. The building was cleared but no one was located inside.
Continuing the search, police followed the tracks to a second nearby residence, where a side door was also found damaged. After officers announced their presence, two individuals surrendered without incident and were arrested for break and enter to a dwelling house.
Also on February 21, CPPS members conducting traffic enforcement near Range Road 3050 and Township Road 394 observed a vehicle operating in a manner consistent with driver impairment. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. The driver provided a sample into an Approved Screening Device, resulting in an “Alert.” As a result, the driver’s licence was suspended for three days.
