A number of local municipalities were affected on Friday, August 22 by the province-wide outage preventing SaskTel wireless customers from calling out on their mobile devices.

The City of Martensville stated on its Facebook page that if residents needed to reach City Hall, they should do so in-person or by e-mail at inquiry@martensville.ca.

The City of Warman and RM of Corman Park also reported having phone service issues via their Facebook pages and websites.

The Town of Rosthern and Town of Hepburn indicated on their respective Facebook pages that their town offices were open, but they were unable to take calls.

The outage was first identified at around 8:45 a.m. on Friday morning and was not addressed until about 6 p.m. that evening. It affected all cellular voice customers, as well as approximately 3,000 business voice customers.

Thankfully, 911 emergency services were not affected, though 310-RCMP was not operational. Data services and text messaging were also not impacted.

“SaskTel apologizes for any inconvenience this outage may have caused and would like to thank customers for their patience while we worked to restore services as quickly as possible,” an update on the SaskTel website read.
