The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has issued a notice of a potential exposure to measles for anyone who was at the Rosthern Gas Plus along Highway 312 from 6:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9.
Measles is highly contagious and can spread easily to others through the air. The virus can also live up to two hours in the air or on surfaces in a space where a person coughed or sneezed.
Anyone who was potentially exposed should call HealthLine (811) if they are also unvaccinated against measles, unsure of their vaccination status or displaying measles symptoms.
These include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, fatigue, irritability, small white spots inside the mouth and throat, and a red blotchy rash that develops on the face and spreads down the body about three to seven days after symptoms begin, and which lasts four to seven days.
Those exposed should monitor for potential symptoms for up to 21 days (ie. until July 30).
Anyone potentially exposed may be eligible for preventative treatment for up to six days after exposure if they are unvaccinated, pregnant, under one year or age or immune suppressed.
However, they should not attend a clinic in person if they are symptomatic. Call the HealthLine instead.
