Alexander Webster of Corman Park placed third in the 10 kilometer event during the Saskatchewan Marathon in Saskatoon on Sunday, May 25.

Webster  finished the course in 33 minutes and six seconds. Jonathan Podbielski of Regina was first with a time of 31 minutes, 48 seconds, while Ian Teichler, also of Regina, placed third with a time of 32 minutes, 24 seconds.

Webster, a fourth-year student and member of the University of Saskatchewan track team, was named the university’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year in 2021 and was a member of Team Saskatchewan at the 2022 Canada Summer Games.

The 2025 Saskatchewan Marathon, organized by the Saskatoon Road Runners Association, is a qualifier for the famed Boston Marathon. The event drew more than 6,300 registered runners and walkers, setting an all-time participation record for the event.

Participants took part in one of six race distances – Marathon (42.2K), Half Marathon (21.1K), 10K, 5K, 2.2K, and the MaraFun (2.2K) – with all races starting and finishing in Diefenbaker Park.

While the day began with ideal running conditions, strong winds later in the morning made it challenging for the participants. Runners from across North America, including top finishers from Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and Saskatchewan, made the journey to Saskatoon.

Anthony Antaya from Saskatoon claimed first place in the men’s marathon with a time of 2:33:59, just short of the course record of 2:22:09 set in 2019. Lindsay Geeraert from Calgary won the women’s marathon with a time of 3:15:00. Both marathon winners received a $1,500 cash prize. Awards were presented to the top three male and female finishers in all timed distances.
