Though one person did suffer minor injuries and two pets remain unaccounted for, no one was killed as a result of a major fire that gutted a four-plex condominum in Martensville on Thursday, October 23.
According to a news release, the Martensville Fire Department (MFD) responded to a report of a structure fire in the 100 block of Main Street at about 4:40 p.m. with two pumper trucks and a support apparatus. Upon arrival, the fire had fully involved the building.
The release states that personnel confirmed all occupants of the four units had been safely evacuated before engaging in fire suppression efforts.
All four units suffered heavy damage as a result of the fire; however, fire crews did successfully prevent the blaze from spreading to an adjacent home and detached garage.
Although the fire was declared under control by 5:50 p.m., crews remained on scene for an extended period due to a natural gas leak at the site, the release stated. As noted above, one person received minor injuries during evacuation efforts, but no loss of human life occurred. Despite extensive searches within the units, two pets remain unaccounted for. After an investigation the following day, the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
The following agencies assisted in either containing the fire or making sure the scene was safe: the Warman Fire Department, Martensville/Warman RCMP, SaskPower, SaskEnergy, City of Martensville Public Works and Medavie Health Services West.

Though the front of this four-plex along Main Street in Martensville looks fairly intact, the damage from an October 23 fire is immediately visible from the back lane. All four units in the structure were damaged by the fire.
