Around 90 martial artists of all ages converged on the Brian King Centre in Warman on May 17 for the Silver Wars All-Sparring Championship, which was hosted by the local Kuro Tora Dojo.
The types of martial arts showcased at the tournament included Sikaran, a traditional Filipino art that emphasizes kicking techniques, as well as karate and kickboxing.
The tournament was rated with the World All Fight System Organization (AFSO) and the Continental Open Martial Arts Association (COMAA).
Each event gives rating points, with first place netting eight points, second place giving six points, third place scoring four and fourth place netting two.
Six tournaments are rated each year for overall points for competitors to become part of Team Canada.
Based on their points score from these events in kata (forms), weapon kata, point sparring and weapon sparring, six members of the Kuro Tora Dojo in Warman will be heading to the World Martial Arts Championship in Arnsberg, Germany on June 21-22, 2025.
These six members are Kleo Glover, Gideon LuBaga, Adrian Fischer, Liam Braaten, Jacob Roberts and instructor Wolfgang Manicke.
