The Clark’s Crossing Gazette took top honours in three categories at the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspaper Association (SWNA) Better Newspapers competition in early May.
The Gazette won the SWNA Best Overall Newspaper Award for large circulation community papers. The award was announced at the SWNA annual general meeting on Thursday, May 8.
“It was an easy choice to find the Clark’s Crossing Gazette as the best among the nine submissions to the Best All-Round Class D (over 6,500 copies) circulation,” wrote the SWNA judge in their comments, adding the award was “based on strong content, excellent layout and design, headline writing, photography, community stories/features, and moreover, sports coverage.”
In addition to Best Overall Newspaper, the Gazette was awarded first place for Best Front Page in the large circulation category.
Gazette reporter-photographer Terry Pugh also won first place in the Best Government Coverage category for his article focusing on pedestrian safety on the Highway 12 overpass in Martensville.
The Clark’s Crossing Gazette previously won Best Overall Newspaper in 2011, and placed among the top three in this category in 2013, 2017 and 2021.
Since 2010, the Gazette has earned a total of 132 awards, including 46 first place awards.
The Clark’s Crossing Gazette is locally-operated. It was founded in 2008 by Terry Jenson of Warman. In April, 2024, the newspaper was sold to London Publishing Company, which owns 20 independently-operated community newspapers in Ontario.
“It’s great to see our team recognized for their hard work and journalistic excellence,” said Clark’s Crossing Gazette Regional Manager Doug Rowe. “We are proud to provide our community with our award winning newspaper.”
