Brian Hubbard has been named the 2024 Warman Volunteer of the Year.

He was presented with the award at the Warman City Council  meeting on Monday, April 28.

Brian has served as President of SaskFive Baseball Association since 2021 and was the Vice President for a term prior to that.  Brian has also coached his children’s teams for as long as they have played.

Brian has overseen significant improvements to the baseball facilities in our region and contributed many many hours building and maintaining those facilities.  He has led SaskFive to expand the number of events hosted by the Association while utilitizing our great facilities and bringing in teams from all over to our region.

Brian prioritizes fun, skill development and respect for players and officials in his role as coach, and he also sets that tone for the entire Association through his leadership.  During Brian’s tenure, SaskFive has seen massive growth….expanding from 251 members in 2021 to 433 members in 2024.

In addition to the countless hours dedicated to SaskFive, Brian also plays a huge role in volunteering for the Warman Minor Hockey Association.  Brian is a longtime referee and he understands how important the development of young officials is to the success of minor hockey.

For the 2024-2025 season, Brian has assumed the newly created position on the executive of Referee-in-Chief.  Prior to that, Brian had volunteered in an unofficial capacity in much the same role, helping to mentor and develop referees.  He has worked hard to improve the retention of referees by fostering a culture of respect for officials in the Association and properly matched junior officials to games that match their level of development.

In addition to his role on the executive, Brian has been a coach and on-ice helper for all three of his children’s teams for many years.

Brian has dedicated countless hours to minor sports in our city and region, and so many kids have benefitted from his efforts.
