It was the tale of two different games in the home and home series between the Warman U18AAA Wildcats and the Battlefords Stars last weekend.
Fans were treated to a spectacular performance by the Wildcats in their 7-0 win at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex on Saturday, February 22.
The home team started fast and never looked back. Hudson Brehaut found the twine 62 seconds into the game. Koston Baliski added a shorthanded marker mid-period and Cameron Jacobson put a book end to the opening frame firing into a wide open net with 43 seconds left.
Kaleb Dewar fired his 23rd and 24th goals a minute apart midway through the second period giving him the team lead in goals scored.
Dade Wotherspoon equaled that total with his 24th goal early in the third period. Mason Obrigewitch capped off the night with an unassisted powerplay marker.
Warman goaltender Seth Gutenberg made 29 saves in the shutout win earning him the Home Star of the Game.
It was a very determined Stars team on the return to North Battleford on Sunday, February 23. The game was tied 1-1 after period one with Stars Kaegan Lowe opening the scoring with a power play marker. Calder Hamilton had a response late in the period.
There was more of the same in the middle frame. Battlefords took the lead on goals by Kash Alger-East and Miller Kramer. Hudson Brehaut and Trey Markus evened the score with late period goals.
Waylon Gardipy gave the Stars their third lead of the game with an early third period marker. Again Warman responded with a goal by Ty Dauvin.
Goals by Kash Alger-East and Corbin Nieman sealed the deal for the hometown team.
This was only the Wildcats second loss in February against six wins. The team ended up with 26 wins and 18 losses for 52 points good enough for sixth place in the regular season standings.
