Passing an annual capital budget, expanding the water treatment plant with the help of government funding and working on a conceptual servicing plan to support future economic growth are among the items on the agenda for the Town of Langham in 2025.

“There are many exciting things happening in the Town of Langham, and we invite everyone to come and check us out,” said mayor Randall Kary, in an e-mail.

During their first meeting on November 25, councillors were appointed to the following portfolios:

Alan Sneddon – Emergency Organization (EMO);

Carol Epp – Sports and Recreation;

Brendan Proctor – Public Works and Infrastructure;

Doug Simpson – Community Planning and Development;

Clare Deugau – Cultural, Heritage and Tourism;

Tim Sharpe – Protective Services.

During their December 16 meeting, town council also passed a 2025 operating budget that includes $3,447,540 million in revenue and $2,642,450 in expenses, resulting in a total surplus of $805,090.

However, Kary indicated they still have to pass their 2025 capital budget, adding that this work is expected to begin this month.

Kary said they are also working on a $10.8 million expansion to the town’s water treatment plant. The provincial government will fund about 73 per cent of the project cost, which roughly equates to $7.9 million.

Finally, he said the town is collaborating with a developer to create a conceptual servicing plan for highway commercial land.
