The Martensville U13AA Marauders picked up a win on Saturday, November 30, downing the Saskatoon Thunder 6-1 at home.

The victory came on the heels of a 14-4 blowout against the Northeast Wolfpack on Wednesday and preceded a battle against the Warman Wildcats on Sunday that ended in an 8-8 tie.

Saturday’s game started dominantly for the Marauders. Outshooting the Thunder 15-5 in the opening period, Martensville was relentless on the attack.

Boston Unser scored his 9th goal of the season with 12:32 left on the clock, assisted by Mason Livingstone and Keaton Kostiuk. Livingstone followed with his own goal, helped by Kiefer Pilling, and made it a 2-0 game for the Marauders after one period.

Just under four minutes into the second period, Eli Mantyka found the back of the net and widened the Marauders’ lead to three. Livingstone picked up another point on the play.

Saskatoon answered two minutes later, providing a glimmer of hope for the visitors.

That spark was extinguished before the buzzer sounded, as a Drew Rolleston power-play goal in the dying seconds made it a 4-1 game with one period to go.

The Thunder outshot the Marauders 13-5 in the final 20 minutes, but Martensville’s Grayson Kennard was a stone wall. The goaltender faced 34 shots throughout the game, but only one crossed the line in the second period.

The Marauders widened their lead in the final frame despite the shot deficit. Unser scored his second of the game, assisted by Rylee Souster and Nash Forrest. Souster scored again just two minutes later, with Forrest again grabbing the assist to give Martensville a 6-1 victory.

Mason Livingstone led the way for Martensville, scoring four points in Saturday’s contest. Boston Unser scored three points himself, which followed a four-goal performance in Wednesday’s game.

Martensville tied their match against the Warman Wildcats on Sunday 8-8. Their next home game will come on December 7, when they’ll host the Wildcats in their final home stand before the New Year.
