Kent Muench is back in the saddle after being re-elected Mayor of Martensville for his fourth consecutive term.

Muench won a landslide victory over challenger Travis Sorenson for the post in the civic election November 13. The City of Martensville official results, posted November 14, showed Muench received 966 votes, while Sorenson received 181 votes.

Muench was first elected Mayor in 2012 after having served as a councillor. He was re-elected by acclamation in the 2016 and 2020 civic elections.

“I’m honoured and grateful for the confidence that the residents of Martensville have shown in my leadership,” said Muench. “This trust is not something I take lightly; it fuels my commitment to fostering a thriving, connected community.”

Muench said he has a number of priorities he’d like to see happen over the next four years, including policing and safety, enhancing infrastructure, and boosting local services.

“But, the real priority for me will be sitting down and listening to the new members of council and what they have heard from residents,” said Muench. “The presence of four new faces at the council table is an exciting opportunity. It brings fresh perspectives and diverse ideas that are essential for innovation and progress. I am looking forward to collaborating with the entire council to ensure our decisions reflect the values and aspirations of our community. This new chapter represents a chance to encourage further community participation, and collectively build on the successes of the past while navigating future challenges with renewed energy and vision.”

Joining Muench on city council are incumbent councillors Darren MacDonald and Spencer Nikkel. MacDonald received the highest number of votes (720) among the 13 candidates running for the six city council seats.

New councillors include: Tracy Cocks, who placed second in the number of votes (630); Krista McCann, who was third with 608; Katharine Carter placed fourth (599); and Brad Blixt in fifth spot ( 570). Incumbent Spencer Nikkel was sixth-highest with 549 votes.
