As Canadians gear up for the holiday season, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Saskatoon is launching its annual Project Red Ribbon campaign to promote sober driving.
This campaign runs from November 1 – until January 6, 2025. Jacob Simmons is honoured on this year’s Project Red Ribbon materials. Jacob was killed by an impaired driver while cycling in Kinross in 2020.
“Impaired driving is a decision that can lead to devastating consequences,” said Corman Park Police Chief Ron Chomyn. “Our message is simple: plan ahead, drive sober, and help us prevent another family from suffering the unimaginable pain of losing a loved one.”
Project Red Ribbon raises awareness about the risks of impaired driving during the holiday season and urges people to plan for a sober ride home if they are going to be consuming alcohol, cannabis, or other drugs.
Call a taxi, Uber, take public transit, arrange a designated driver, or plan to spend the night.
A red ribbon is a symbol of your commitment to driving sober.
Show your support for sober driving by getting your red ribbon or car decal: These are available through MADD Canada Chapters across the country; MADD Saskatoon President Bonny Stevenson at 306-290- 8278, maddsaskatoon@gmail.com, or www.maddchapters.ca/saskatoon.
