Among Judy Harwood’s last official acts as Reeve of Corman Park was one that made her smile.

“It gives me extreme pleasure on behalf of Corman Park Council, administration and staff to present the 2024 Corman Park Citizen of the Year Award to Betty Aasen,” said Harwood. “She is well-known to me, and she’s also my neighbour.”

Harwood presented the award at a Corman Park Council committee meeting on Monday, November 4.

Each year, nominations are accepted by the municipality for the award.

Ratepayers in all divisions are invited to submit nominations of people who volunteer their time and energy to improve the quality of life for residents in their community.

“Betty is the true epitome of commumity invovlement and selfless work for others,” said Harwood. “Her nomination form is several pages long, and lists her many accomplishments.”

Aasen headed up the revitalization of the Merrill School yard, a major project that included the construction of a sports court, an outdoor ice rink, a heated warm-up shelter, a play area and a gazebo.

She also spearheaded several fundraising events including a staek night, basket draws, 50-50 draws, and community garage and bake sales.

“Betty’s contributions go beyond these projects,” said Harwood. “Her proactive approach and her willingness to volunteer her time exemplifies the qualities of a true leader. Her compassion, integrity and unwavering commitment to the betterment of her community make her an exemplary choice for our 2024 Citizen of the year.”
