Area players helped propel Saskatchewan to a bronze-medal finish in a 8-5 win over British Columbia at the 2024 WHL Cup.

Martensville’s Dade Wotherspoon (Warman AAA Wildcats/Prince George Cougars) had one goal and three assists in the win.

Martensville’s Blake Chorney (Saskatoon AAA Blazers/ Vancouver Giants) had four assists in the game, adding to his tournament-leading 11 points. He was also the tournament leader in goals scored with seven.

Dundurn’s Sam Failler (Warman AAA Wildcats/ Regina Pats) was among the tournament leaders in powerplay assists with three.

Martensville’s Calder Hamilton (Warman AAA Wildcats/Calgary Hitmen) had an assist in the round robin win over Alberta.

From Wednesday, October 23 through Sunday, October 27, the WHL Cup featured the top 2009-born players from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba

playing at the Peavey Mart Centrium – home of the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels.

The tournament featured teams from the four Western Canadian provinces competing in a round-robin tournament format followed by playoffs.

Saskatchewan finished second in the round robin with wins over Alberta (5-2) and Manitoba (5-0), and a 3-6 loss to British Columbia. They lost 5-9 to Alberta in the semi-final game. Alberta took the gold medal with a 8-1 win over Manitoba.
