High school teams from our area cleaned up on medals at provincial soccer tournaments for the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association (SHSAA) held from Friday, October 25 to Saturday, October 26.
Martensville hosted the 4A Girls competition. The home squad took the gold medal with a 1-0 win over Yorkton Sacred Heart in the championship game. They had defeated Regina Luther 2-0 in the semi-finals. Yorkton Sacred Heart advanced with a 3-2 win over NB John Paul II. Regina Luther defeated NB John Paul II 2-1 in the bronze medal game.
The 3A Boys provincial Tournament was hosted by Maymont in North Battleford. Waldheim won the championship with a hard fought 2-1 win over Osler VCA. In the semi-finals Osler VCA defeated Maymont 12-0 and Waldheim defeated LCBI 4-1. LCBI took the bronze with a 8-0 win over Maymont.
The 3A Girls provincial tournament was also hosted by Maymont in North Battleford. Osler VCA took the championship with a dominant 4-0 win over Waldheim. In the semi-finals Osler VCA defeated Muenster 6-0 and Waldheim defeated Maymont 11-0. Muenster defeated Maymont 4-0 in the bronze medal game.
The 4A Boys provincial tournament was hosted by Yorkton Sacred Heart with Moose Jaw Central taking gold, Yorkton Sacred Heart silver,and Chief John Keenatch bronze.
The 5A Girls provincial tournament was in Regina with Saskatoon Holy Cross taking gold, Regina Winston Knoll silver and Swift Current bronze.
The 5A Boys provincial tournament was in Saskatoon with Saskatoon Holy Cross taking gold, PA St. Mary silver and Regina O’Neill bronze.
