Halloween Safety!!

Ensure that your children are dressed appropriately for Halloween.

Use make-up or face paint instead of masks – improperly fitted masks can interfere with your child’s vision.

Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks…. children are twice as likely to be injured in a vehicle or pedestrian accident on Halloween compared to any other day of the year.

DRIVERS!!!! Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods.

Get rid of any distractions – like your phone.

Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways.

Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Be especially alert for kids during those hours.

Incidents of Note

On October 14 at 11:00 a.m., Corman Park Police Service (CPPS) conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Monte Carlo driving north on Valley Road near Township Road 362-A. The driver was found to have a suspended drivers license and warrant out of Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) for driving while disqualified. As the CPPS officer attempted to make an arrest, the driver tried to flee by putting the vehicle in drive.

He was subdued with OC spray and taken into custody. The vehicle was searched and the officer located Methamphetamine and a home-made firearm, both of which were seized. The driver was transported to Saskatoon RCMP to be held for court facing numerous criminal charges.

On October 12 at 6:10 p.m.,  CPPS came across a male stumbling in the east ditch of Highway 11 just south of  Township Road 384. A CPIC check revealed the male was wanted out of SPS on an outstanding assault warrant. The male was arrested for the outstanding warrant and for being intoxicated in public. He was released the following morning once sober on an Undertaking to attend Saskatoon Provincial Court.

On October 12 at 4:15 p.m.,  DOCC broadcasted a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision (MVC) on Highway 11 south of Township Road 390, where two SUVs side-swiped each other. The female caller advised that she could smell cannabis on the other driver when she spoke with him. While interacting with the driver, CPPS noted he displayed signs of drug impairment and admitted to recent cannabis use. The driver provided a sample of oral fluid resulting in a positive reading for THC. He was subsequently issued a 72 hour Driver’s License suspension and three day vehicle impound.

On October 12 at approximately 3:45 p.m., DOCC dispatched a call of a white Dodge Ram with a Manitoba Plate where a passenger got out, grabbed a case of Pilsner beer out of the box, and got back in while waiting for the Warman ferry. CPPS stopped the vehicle, and two passengers admitted to consuming alcohol while in the vehicle, as evidenced by the open case of Pilsner beer in the back seat. Both passengers received tickets for alcohol in a vehicle.

On October 13 at 1:20 a.m., CPPS arrested a female on outstanding warrants out of Saskatoon Police Service, for driving while suspended and Fail To Appear stemming from a traffic stop on Township Road 362 east of Valley Road. She was released on a Form H to attend Saskatoon Traffic Court.

On October 17, CPPS officer was parked along Highway 41, when he observed a trailer on fire at Range Road 3041. The trailer was hauling straw bales and was fully involved in flames. The officer contacted DOCC to dispatch Saskatoon Fire, who attended and put out the fire. No one was injured during the incident.
