Over 100 golfers competed in the Club Championships at The Legends Golf Club last weekend.

Eight divisions named their victors, with Darryl Czuy claiming the men’s championship and Tracy Edmison winning the ladies’ title.

“Our course looks great,” said general manager and head professional Davidson Matyczuk. “The Legends is often mentioned as having some of the best course conditions in the entire province. Our turf care team has been busy making sure the tees, fairways, and greens are second to none.”

The men’s division produced fireworks from the word go. Golfers jockeyed for position throughout the first round, but it was a pair of 69s that gave Darryl Czuy and Scott Jenkins a lead to sleep on.

Scott Jenkins and Darryl Czuy walk off the 18th hole on Sunday after the final putts dropped. The golfers shared the lead after day one, shooting 3-under-par 69s to set up a battle in the final round.

In the super senior men’s division, six players were within two shots of day-one leaders Larry Hounjet and Rene Hanchar. A 74 from Derrick Jenkins gave him a two-stroke cushion heading into Sunday in the senior men’s division.

Sunday produced even more excitement as the August sun beat down. A front-nine 35 gave Czuy the outright lead while a 40 sent Jenkins in the opposite direction. After a 74 on Saturday, Colby Daniels stormed up the leaderboard with four birdies through 12 holes to bring him within two shots of the frontrunner. Three bogeys in his closing five holes took Daniels back to +1 for the tournament, five back of Czuy.

With a growing cushion, Czuy played conservatively on the back-nine, making eight pars and a bogey on 18 to break through for his first club championship title. Daniels finished second overall, and a 77 from Jenkins gave him solo third to round out the podium.

“The set-up and weather were perfect,” said Czuy following the final round. “I want to thank the entire team at the Legends for an incredible weekend.”

Tracy Edmison’s scores of 81-87 secured her the championship crown in the ladies’ division.

Barry Macooh shot 76-75 to retain the senior men’s title after trailing by two on Saturday.

Lori Rittwage and Debbie Davidson maintained their leads from day one as the women were named victors of the senior ladies’ and super senior ladies’ championships, respectively. A 76 from Rene Hanchar gave him the super senior men’s division, while rounds of 85-81 named Charlie Evans the junior champion. A 76-69 crowned Myles Johnson as the winner of the inaugural staff championship.
