Golfers battled heat and smoke as The Legends Golf Club played host to the Lac La Ronge Indian Band Open July 20-21.

Prince Albert’s Brett Henry posted an impressive 130 total over the two days to claim the men’s division championship.

Almost 200 players from across the province competed across four divisions.

The men’s division was tightly contested and saw three golfers tied at the top after the opening frame. Danny Klughart, Brett Henry, and Jerry Christiansen all posted 65s to claim a share of the lead.

Drama unfolded Sunday as the northern smoke billowed in. Christiansen shot a 1-over 73 to fall out of the championship race and finish fourth overall. Stacy Genaille’s back-to-back 68s gave him the clubhouse lead at 8-under par. His time at the top was short-lived.

Henry and Klughart battled until the closing hole, but it was Henry who emerged victorious. He posted another 65 to finish -14 for the tournament and avenged his runner-up finish last year at this event.

Donna Blackbird claimed the ladies’ championship, shooting 76-79 to win by one over Connie Swiftwolfe. In the senior men’s division, Peter Wolfe posted 73-76 and won by a healthy four strokes.

The junior division was contested over 27 holes, with Josiah Jim shooting 81-41 and earning the victory over Keshaun Sanderson.

The LLRIB Open has been held at The Legends Golf Club since 2021. It provides an opportunity for golfers from far and wide and all skill levels to compete and reconnect on the golf course.
