Dayton Lundstrom had four hits in five at bats against Regina in the 16-9 game two win

A road trip to southern Saskatchewan was just what the doctor ordered for the Sask Five Marlins 18UAAA squad. The Marlins won three of four games in Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League play over the weekend.

Seven runs in the third inning propelled the Marlins to an 11-3 win in game one of a doubleheader in Estevan against the South East Twins on Saturday, June 22.

Braden Toth went the distance on the mound to earn the complete game victory.

Sask Five’s bats were hot, with every player getting at least one hit. Josh Gutek, Dayton Lundstrom, Ben Hosegood  and Houston Koch had two hits each. Houston Koch and Joshua Kirk each had three runs batted in.

In game two the script was flipped, with the home team winning 10-1.

Next up was a double-header on Sunday against the Regina Athletics.

The Marlins dominated game one, winning 13-2.

They started off fast, scoring four runs in the first, then adding two in the second, fifth and seventh innings and three in the fourth. The team showed great discipline at the plate, drawing 13 walks in the game.

Blake Rowan led the way with two hits and three runs batted in.

Axel Flodell earned the win, striking out six batters in five innings pitched. Lukas Viden was strong in relief, allowing only one hit in two innings pitched.

Game two was an extra inning thriller that saw the Marlins score nine runs in the eighth inning to come away with a 16-9 win.

Dayton Lundstrom led the way with four hits in five at bats.

Lundstrom, Lukas Viden and Ben Hosegood each had three runs batted in.

Josh Gutek started the game on the mound, striking out three batters in three innings pitched.

Willis Simair earned the win in relief, striking out 10 batters while walking only one.
