The value of construction projects in Warman for the first six months of 2024 is almost triple what it was for the same period last year.

Between January 1, 2024  and June 11, 2024, the City of Warman issued 154 building permits worth a combined total of $34,167,516.

That compares to 121 building permits worth a combined total of $13,800,036 issued by the city for the period January 1, 2023 to June 11, 2023.

The figures were contained in a report to Warman City Council on Monday, June 17.

“It’s good to see the numbers going up,” said Warman City Councillor Doug Ramage. “What is the turnaround time for processing the applications?”

Warman Director of Planning, Development and Bylaw Services Brad Toth said the average permit is processed by the city within seven days.

Toth said the increase in construction activity is especially notable in the number of new single family dwellings, which has nearly doubled from the same period last year.

There were 30 permits issued in Warman so far this year for single family residences, compared to 18 last year.

“Residential housing starts continue to push the value of construction higher for 2024,” said Toth in his report to the June 17 council meeting. “These new numbers include a couple of larger multi-family projects.”

The number of building permits for total multi-family units in Warman is also up, from 89 last year to 102 this year. In addition, the number of permits for commercial buildings doubled, from eight last year to 17 this year.

Toth concluded that the value of construction in Warman for the full 2024 calendar year is expected to be higher than it was in 2023.

While the  overall number of permits and total value of construction in Martensville so far this year falls below what Warman is experiencing, there’s still plenty of activity in that community as well.

And with construction season just hitting its stride now, with the arrival of summer, Martensville’s permit numbers are likely to pick up considerably in the coming weeks.

According to statistics posted on the City of Martensville website, the total value of construction in Martensville between January 3 and May 31, 2024 amounted to $1,911,599.55.

The City of Martensville issued permits for two single-family dwellings, four commercial/industrial buildings, and one government/institutional building during the first five months of 2024. The bulk of the permits were for residential additions and renovations.
