CJHL Award Finalists

The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) recently announced the finalists for their major awards of the year, and players from Warman were recognized as being among the best of the best in Canada.

Humboldt Broncos Spencer Bell (Warman), alongside four others from across other Junior A hockey leagues in Canada, has been nominated for the Top Forward award of the 2023-24 campaign.

Joining Bell are Luka Sukovic, Bonnyville Pontiacs (AJHL), Dalton Andrew, Winkler Flyers (MJHL), Trevor Hoskin, Cobourg Cougars (OJHL), Alex Blais, Rangers de Montreal (LHJAAAQ).

Carson Olsen (Warman) of the Battlefords North Stars is one of five nominees for the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) Rookie of the Year. He is the lone defenceman across the CJHL’s nine member leagues, to be nominated for this award.

Other nominees are forwards Grady Hoffman of the Steinbach Pistons (MJHL), and Matthew Manza of the Toronto Patriots (OJHL), and goaltenders Noah Tegelaar of the Blind River Beavers (NOJHL) and Jaeden Nelson of the Navan Grads (CCHL).

Former captain of the Warman U18AAA Wildcats Brody Mortensen (Humboldt) of the Canmore Eagles was the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Outstanding Defenceman award winner and is a finalist for Canada’s top Junior A defenceman, joining Noah Houle, Flin Flon Bombers (SJHL), Noah Szabo, Steinbach Pistons (MJHL), David Green, St. Michael’s Buzzers (OJHL), and Olivier Beaudoin, West Kent Steamers (MHL).

WHL Award Winner

For the second year in a row Martensville U15AA Marauders alumni Brayden Yager has been awarded the Brad Hornung Memorial Trophy as the Western Hockey League Most Sportsmanlike Player. Noted for his talent, desire, and sportsmanlike attitude, he recorded 35 goals and 60 assists for 95 points in 57 games, while recording only 20 penalty minutes. This included three shorthanded goals and six game-winning goals for the Moose Jaw Warriors.
