The Saskatchewan Heavy Construction Association (SHCA) has reacted favourably to the 2024-25 provincial budget.

“Our association is looking forward to the construction season and the opportunities presented in today’s budget,” said Shantel Lipp, SHCA president. “The funding for ongoing and new projects will help meet the needs of Saskatchewan drivers.”

Funding announced in the March 20 provincial budget for highway projects is set at $741 million.

“The twinning of highways 6 and 39 and work on highway 5 are vital to the province’s growth,” said Lipp. “Saskatchewan has more of what the world wants and getting our products to market can only happen with the work that our industry does.”

The SHCA represents over 200 member businesses in the heavy construction industry in Saskatchewan. The industry generates more than $5 billion in provincial GDP out of a provincial economy of $73 billion or roughly seven per cent of the total economy and employs close to 30,000 workers, making the industry one of the largest employers in the province.
