The curling program in Langham continues to bear strong results in high school curling as multiple teams have advanced to the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association (SHSAA) Curling provincials to be held March 8-9.
A strong showing at the Central Valley Athletic Conference championships at Dalmeny early-February was the ticket to regional competion on March 1-2, with the boys playing in Shellbrook, the girls in North Battleford and the mixed team in Lashburn/St. Walburg.
The boys started strong with a 10-8 win over Outlook to advance to the A-final where they lost a close one 5-6 to the host Shellbrook team. Langham would not be denied in the B-final defeating Maidstone 8-6 to grab the second birth to the provincials to be held in Gull Lake.
Langham is in pool A with Avonlea, Esterhazy and Wynyard. Gull Lake, Balgonie, Humboldt and Spritwood are in pool B.
The mixed team also earned a berth as the B-side qualifier. They defeated Maidstone 9-5, and Walter Murray 7-4 before losing 4-7 to Bethlehem in the A-final. Langham beat Walter Murray 5-3 in a rematch game to take the B-final.
They are in pool A at the provincials with MJ Central, Yorkton Regional and Watrous. Eastend, Lampman, Tisdale and Saskatoon Bethlehem are in pool B.
The Langham girls team opened with a 8-7 win over Holy Cross before losing to North Battleford Comprehensive in the A-final. The B-final saw a rematch with Holy Cross, with the Saskatoon team coming away with a 10-9 win, denying Langham a chance to defend their provincial title they earned on home ice last year.
